After a patwari, the Division number 2 police have caught a youth, who is the son of an inspector posted with the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and recovered 1.5 kg of opium from him. (SHO Gurpreet Singh informed that this youth who is a student of Bachelors of Arts has been identified as Mithilesh Kumar,a resident of Sapra district,Bihar.
We had set up a naka near Dukhniwaran Gurdwara late on Sunday night when we saw this boy coming towards the naka. Just as he saw the police,he tried to flee. The boy was chased and arrested. When we checked a small bag that he had been carrying,we found this opium. After questioning of the youth,it has come to light that he was bringing this opium to Ludhiana.
Till now he has told us that he had struck the deal on phone and was to supply the opium to a person here in Ludhiana. The father of this youth is posted in Varanasi and we found a photograph and the identity card of his father, which this boy had been using in the past to ward off any kind of checking. While the boy claims that this is the first time that he has indulged in such a crime,we are still verifying this. The person who was to receive the packet will also be arrested soon, added Gurpreet Singh.
The accused has also told the police that he had purchased the opium at a cost of Rs 60,000 per kg and the deal had been stuck for Rs 1 lakh a kg here in Ludhiana. This very police party had caught three persons including a patwari on June 26 and recovered 1.7 kg of opium from them.
