Punjabi University to facilitate setting up of language centre: V-C

Efforts to construct the proposed World Punjabi Centre (WPC) on the Punjabi University Campus received a shot in the arm on Thursday,with Vice-Chancellor Jaspal Singh assuring that concerted efforts would be made in this regard.

Speaking on the occasion of “Punjab Di Sabhyacharak Niti” (Cultural Policy of Punjab),organised by the World Punjabi Centre (WPC) at the University Senate Hall,the V-C said the projects being carried out by various departments for the development of Punjabi will be brought under one umbrella.

The University,he declared,will facilitate the work of any individual or organisation directed at the promotion of Punjabi language,art and culture. While lauding the achievement of Varinder Kumar Sharma,who held the fourth position in the recent UPSC examinations and had used Punjabi as the medium,Singh said the university will felicitate him soon.

Sutinder Singh Noor,a noted Punjabi scholar and vice-president of Bharti Sahit Academy,said the bi-lingual policy of the state is not in tune with the development of Punjabi language.

WPC director Deepak Manmohan Singh said with the completion of the World Punjabi Centre,the furthering the cause of the Punjabi language will get an unprecedented boost.
