A JUNIOR engineer of the Punjab State Power Corporation Ltd,G S Marhia was caught red-handed by the Vigilance Bureau (VB) on Monday.
As per the VB officials,Marhia had demanded Rs 5,000 from Ankur Mahajan,an industrialist,who was trying to get a new 65KW connection for his newly established unit M/s Manaya Textiles situated opposite Central jail,Tajpur Road.
Mahajan decided not to take the easy way out and refused to pay the bribe.
Instead,he approached Neeraj Chawla,National President of The Anti-Corruption Federation of India,and sought his help. Chawla in turn brought the entire matter to the notice of S S Mand,SSP Vigilance,who in turn sent a team headed by DSP Gurcharan Singh.
This team caught the accused in PSEB Focal Point Division when Ankur Mahajan handed over the bribe amount to the officer.
Mahajan expressed his happiness that he could do his bit in nabbing a corrupt official. Nitin Gupta who is a shadow witness in this case accompanied Ankur Mahajan during the operation.
