Protests erupt,people demand justice for acid attack victim

Apart from capital punishment for all the accused,the protesters also demanded an attitudinal change. Dr Narjeet Kaur,president of All India Working Women Forum,said the mindset of men needed to be changed towards women. Supporting her,Dr Arun Mitra,from Indian Doctors for Peace and Development,said,“Moral values need to be taught to men right from childhood. They should be told that they must respect women. Education must begin from home itself. These days even in television programmes and movies,women are being projected more as a consumer product which further distracts youngsters.”

Dr Gurcharan Kochar,president of Istri Sabha,conveyed condolences to the family of the young girl who was about to get married. “I can feel the pain of her parents who had done all arrangements for her

wedding and now they will have to light her pyre. It was indeed a planned murder and the guilty must be awarded exemplary punishment,” she said.

Keemti Rawal,a member of another NGO which held a candlelight march near Clock Tower,said police should check the sale of acid.
