Mortaging land to seek Rs 100-cr loan from HUDCO: MC meets on Sept 17

The general house meeting of the Municipal Corporation will held on September 17. The main agenda of the meet is to discuss mortgaging its land to sanction Rs 100-crore loan from the Housing and Urban Development Corporation (HUDCO) to lay water and sewer lines in new colonies of the city.
Senior Deputy Mayor Parveen Bansal,while reacting to the agenda item,said in the past the MC had never mortgaged its land for seeking a loan,so the issue needs to be debated.
Not only this,even the MC authorities will put to discussion,the issue of leasing encroached land by the police department so that the MC can earn some revenue from it.
According to information,a total of 18 police stations in Ludhiana have encroached upon the land of the irrigation department,rehabilitation centre,improvement trust and municipal corporation. Of which nine sites belong to the MC.
Assistant Town Planner Ramesh Chabra said,”After approval from the general house,the proposal will be sent to the Punjab government.”
Of the 9 sites,MC authorities plan to give only 4 sites on lease.
