Man electrocuted,kin block Ferozepur road

High drama was witnessed on the Ferozepur Road on Monday evening after agitated family members and relatives of a man who died of electrocution blocked the busy road.

High drama was witnessed on the Ferozepur Road on Monday evening after agitated family members and relatives of a man who died of electrocution blocked the busy road.

Mahinder Singh,a driver and a resident of Barewal Road,died after he was cutting down a tree as ordered by his employer Vijay Gupta. An injured Singh was rushed to a nearby private hospital by Gupta. However,Singh died and his family members and relatives refused to cremate the body till they were paid Rs 5 lakh in compensation.

Singh’s family claimed that the victim was a father of three small children and there was no earning member in the family to look after them. When Gupta refused to listen to them,the agitated relatives blocked the road.

ACP Gurpreet Kaur Purewal along with teams from PAU police station and Sarabha Nagar police station rushed to the spot. The police officers tried to placate the agitated family members and relatives. When the protesters finally listened to them,the body was sent for post-mortem.

Gupta is learnt to have told the police that he won’t pay the compensation as he paid a monthly salary to Singh. At the time of filing of this report,the police had called both the parties to the police station where the matter was being resolved.
