Hilton Head Island: Jeev Milkha Singh overcame a wobbly start to salvage a level-par card and lie tied 41st after the opening round of the US$ 5.7 million Verizon Heritage golf tournament here. In quest of his first PGA Tour win,Jeev began with his back nine and soon was in trouble after the 14th hole double bogey and later the 17th hole bogey left him at three-over. Jeev picked up a shot on the 18th but dropping a stroke on the first hole meant he was back to square one again. Instead of panicking,Jeev responded with back-to-back birdies and picked one more stroke while signing off to return a level-par card at the par-71 Harbour Town Golf Links. Jeev was joined by Daniel Chopra at the 41st spot after the Indian-born Swede carded an identical 71.

Germany’s Alex Cejka fired a seven-under 64 for a one shot lead over American Lee Janzen.
