General body meeting of BSNL held
The general body meeting of the BSNL Casual and Contract Workers Union,Ludhiana,was held on Thursday under the leadership of Shiv Kumar Parcha. Darshan Singh,District Secretary,said the agreement had been reached upon between the BSNL contractors in the presence of the BSNL management. The tri-party meeting between the union,contractors and the management was held in the last week of March. As per the agreement,the BSNL contractors have agreed to implement the instructions of the BSNL corporate office issued from time to time.
DMCH holds workshop on AIDS
A day-long sensitisation workshop on AIDS was jointly organised on Thursday by the Department of Microbiology,DMCH,and Integrated Counselling and Testing Centre (ICTC). The progammme was inaugurated by principal of DMCH Dr Daljit Singh. Professor and Head of Microbiology Dr Raj Kumar stressed that AIDS was a high-risk disease and it can be prevented if proper precautions are taken and greater awareness was made for those who are ignorant of the disease and its repercussions on the human body. The sensitisation program was attended by 450 people.
MC razes liquor kiosk in green belt
Following the complaint of residents of BRS Nagar J-Block,the Municipal Corporation on Thursday demolished liquor kiosk running in the green belt near the Lodhi Club. On Wednesday,a few residents had complained that the kiosk was operational for the past two years and for which the MC charges an annual fee of Rs 4.15 lakh.
Training course on seed production at PAU
The Directorate of Extension Education,PAU,is organising a two-day training course on seed production of vegetable crops on April 5-6 at Kairon Kisan Ghar. About 25 participants including Horticultural Development Officers (HDOs),District Extension Specialists (DESs) and teachers of Kirshi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) will participate. The programme will have deliberations by experts on different aspects of seed production in vegetable crops including tomato,cucumber,chili,okra,cucurbits and leafy vegetables. The participants will also be provided tips on health care and weed management in vegetable seed crops.
Best Baby Smile show on April 3
Radcliff School in association with Smile Care Centre is organising an event The Best Baby Smile on April 3 on the shcool premises. Dr Hari Singh Brar,area councillor,will be the chief guest on the occasion. Dr Atamjit ,school principal said,Through the event,the school is trying to inculcate a healthy way of living,among children. A free oral health check up for children will be also be done.
PAU to honour Surjit Patar on April 22
The Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) will honour its former Punjabi teacher,Dr Surjit Patar in a function to be held on April 22. PAU Vice-Chancellor Dr Manjit Singh Kang will present the honour to Dr Patar in recognition of his being bestowed with the coveted Saraswati Award by the Birla Foundation. Dr Patar remained Punjabi teacher at PAU for over 33 years. He is the third Punjabi writer to get the award after Dr Hari Bhajan Singh and Dr Dalip Kaur Tiwana who got Saraswati Award in 1991 and 2001,respectively. Giving details,Additional Director of Communication Dr Jagtar Singh Dhiman said a university level function will be held on April 22 in the Pal Auditorium,where eminent writers,thinkers and prominent educationists will be invited. A photo portrait of Dr Surjit Patar with his own handwriting will also be released on the occasion,said Dr Dhiman.
50 quintals of milk found adulterated
CHANDIGARH: Four samples of milk taken from a dairy situated at Haibowal Khurd in Ludhiana have been found to be adulterated and unfit for human consumption. Dr S P S Sohal,Director,Health and Family Welfare,Punjab,said acting on a tip-off,health officials had raided the dairy sealed 50 quintals of milk.

Lodge Vishwakarma No 173,a non-governmental organisation,is holding a project Charity from Scratch on its premises at Sarabha Nagar on April 4.
