Civic staff go on strike in protest; vegetable vendor retracts statement against MC Commissioner

The issue of an argument between a vegetable vendor and a senior Government officer’s wife took another turn today when Municipal Corporation (MC) Commissioner M S Jaggi was put on suspension by the state government. However, vegetable vendor Kamleshpal, who had earlier alleged that Jaggi’s wife had an argument with him over buying of vegetables from Dandi Swami, made a U-turn today and denied his earlier statement.

Kamleshpal gave an affidavit saying,“The woman who had an argument with me was not the municipal corporation commissioner’s wife but someone else.” He surprised many when he expressed ignorance about his statements about the MC commissioner’s wife.

Meanwhile, the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation was closed today as employees from all the cadres went on strike supporting the Commissioner. They stated that the government’s action was not justified at all. Meanwhile,Jaggi appealed to the employees to go back to work, saying that they should not make the public suffer because of the incident.

In a press statement,Jaggi said,“The Chief Minister is already conducting a high-level probe into this matter. So the employees should go back to work. They should not get emotional.”

However, the Municipal Corporation Employees Union stated that the staff would not get back to work “till the Government does justice” to the MC commissioner. People from various parts of the city had to go back today after they found that offices in all the zones were closed.
