A 22-year-old man lost his life and four others were injured after a fire broke out in at the Jai Bhole hosiery unit in Basant Nagar on Friday. The incident, which occurred around 3 am,is believed to have been caused by short circuit in which Prithiman Lamba lost his life while Pawan,Deepu,Raju and Suraj sustained minor injuries. According to sources, the victims were on night shift when the incident took place. The workers got trapped inside the factory and the fire brigade team rescued them with great difficulty. They were rushed to hospital. Lamba was referred to CMCH but he died on his way. He reportedly died of asphyxia. The injured were discharged after first aid. It took the fire men about three hours to douse the flames. The exact loss could not be assessed but the unit was not having any fire-fighting arrangement and it was located in a congested area due to which it became difficult for the team to enter the lane.
