Nearly four days after a DSP and a woman weere found murdered at a farmhouse here, the police officials claimed a breakthrough by recovering the two missing vehicles of the victims.
DSP Moga,Balraj SIngh Gill, and Monica Kapila were found murdered on Friday and the vehicles that they respectively drove were found missing.
The vehicles were found dumped in the city after the police pressure began mounting. We had launched a massive manhunt in bet area of river Sutlej, said Police Commissioner Ishwar Chander Sharma.
The police found the DSPs Chevrolet Optra some two kilometers from the crime site, while Kapilas Innova was found in a lane just behind the West End Mall situated on the Ferozepur road. We have picked up six finger prints from each of the cars and have even picked up some footprints. The vehicles,it seems, were kept in rural areas prior to being dumped in the city, Sharma said adding that the clues that the police officials have managed to secure are very important.
He also admitted to having lost crucial time as the police officer who found the bodies took almost two hours to inform the Ludhiana Police. Yes,we did lose some very important time as the first hour after the crime comes to light is very important. The officer probably panicked. We plan to take some correctional steps within the department so that such lapses do not happen in future, Sharma added.
Queried about alleged proximity of the victim woman with a dental surgeon,Sharma said,All that we have as of now regarding the personal life of the deceased police officer and the woman are based on the statements given to us by Vandana Arora who is a a close friend of Kapila and the doctor. But we have no corroborations on these statements. We have not arrested any one so far.
Sharma said that police have not discarded the honour killing angle.
The aggrieved families want the truth to be out so that the rumours could be culled. During the course of investigation,we have come across many leads, which need to be probed, he added.
