Tiwari finds more than 50% employees absent; issues show-cause notice

A surprise check by Ludhiana Deputy Commissioner (DC) Rahul Tiwari in various government departments on Thursday morning caught employees unawares. Tiwari found more than 50 per cent employees absent with many of them on French leave. The DC has issued show-cause notices to all the heads of District Education office,District Transport office,Town Planner’s office,Civil Surgeon’s office,PWD branch office at Ghumar Mandi and a few schools and has sought explanation from them.

In the DEO’s office,a majority of the staff was on leave,said the DC. He said,“On any given day,not more than 20 per cent of the staff should be given leave.” In the office,one Harinder,clerk,was found absent since December 13.

In the PWD office too,two employees were found absent from duty since long. In the Civil Surgeon’s office,the attendance register was not updated. Clerk Jatinder Singh,Superintendent Manjit Kaur and a few others had not marked their previous days’ attendance.

At the Cemetery Road Government Middle School,4 out of 7 teachers were found absent. The DC also checked the quality of mid-day meal and even asked took a quiz of students to test their general awareness. Tiwari has warned employees to follow service rules or face action.
