Herman Hollerith’s invention of encoding data on cards through a series of punched holes, which was used in industries, corporate offices and banks for keeping the attendance record of employees, has now become popular in city schools.
Sat Paul Mittal School is the first school in the city to have this system. Rajiv Chauhan, school principal, said,”We installed the smart card system to keep the attendance record of teachers. Teachers come and punch in at the time of entering and leaving the school. We have made the system completely transparent through biometric equipment which uses fingerprints.”
Chauhan further said,”It is very efficient system. The time, name and month are recorded. Although our school staff was quite punctual earlier too,it has further increased their efficiency. The system has automatic alert concept. It means that if a person comes late for five days,he /she is given the report by the punching machine itself about late coming or early departure.”
Recently this system has also been introduced at Sacred Heart Convent Senior Secondary School in Sarabha Nagar. Sister Chantal, school principal, said,”The motive behind is to maintain punctuality. We have issued smart card to all the teaching as well non-teaching employees.”
