A delegation of Federation of Industrial and Commercial Organisation (FICO) under the presidentship of Gurmeet Singh Kular met Rashpal Singh Sidhu,District Treasury Officer,Ludhiana on Wednesday. They give him a memorandum regarding the pending VAT refunds of 54 crore and online disbursement of VAT payment with some other suggestions pertaining to speedy refund of VAT of industry. Industrialists said that they were assured that pending refunds will be cleared by October 15 online. Kular also met the Financial Commissioner Taxation DP Reddy before and it was only after his directions,that Sidhu assured a speedy release of refunds. District treasury officer assured the delegation that all measures will be taken to solve the issue.
Cultural extravaganza at IIT-Roorkee
PCTE Group of Institutes,Baddowal bagged various prizes at Thomso-2013,a cultural and literary extravaganza held at IIT Roorkee campus. As many as 52 teams from across the country including 3 IITs and Delhi University teams took part. In debate competition,Marion from B.Com 2nd year won the 3rd prize. PCTE team won 2nd Prize in stage play whereas Lovely Khatri student won best actor award. He was also awarded scholarship worth Rs 50,000 for an acting workshop to be held at National School of Drama.
Police reunites 6-year-old with family
Jodhewal Basti police on Wednesday had a surprise visitor to their police station. Shabana,6,lost her way and entered the area. Cops took notice and brought her to the police station. Later Shabanas parents were traced via the complaint they had registered with the Focal Point police. The girl asked for chocolates and cold drink and denied to have lunch. So we brought her chocolate and cold drink. Her parents were traced within hours, said inspector Gurpreet Singh.
40 kg poppy husk recovered,2 arrested
Jagraon (Ludhiana): Police recovered 40 kg poppy husk and
arrested two in two separate incidents. Jagraon police on Tuesday arrested Jasvir Singh alias Jassi,a resident of Dakha,and seized
10 kg poppy husk from his possession. ASI Manjit Singh from CIA staff,Jagraon said,Police was on patrol in Sidhwan Khurd village when the accused was frisked and drugs were recovered. In the second case,Sukhdev Singh,alias Seli,a resident of village Haans Kalan from Dakha was held with 30 kg poppy husk on Tuesday.

NIUA team meets MC officials
A two-member team from National Institute of Urban Affairs,New Delhi visited the city on Wednesday. Sumit Jarangal,additional commissioner,who held meetings with officials,told Newsline,The team analysed the reforms adopted by us and gave us scoring of more than 90 per cent whereas earlier our score was 60 per cent. They appreciated steps taken by us in various projects. Jarangal added that higher rating means easier it will be for us to get more funds for city projects.
23-year-old commits suicide
Gurcharanjit kaur,23,committed suicide by hanging herself with the ceiling fan of the roof in Chet Singh Nagar on Wednesday. As per the family,the deceased has passed BA recently. Shimplapuri police reached the spot and investigated the case. No suicide note was found from the spot.
