Prisoners get tips to start business
LUDHIANA: The prisoners of the Ludhiana Central Jail on Wednesday got a taste of how to make green chilli powder and puree. The session was part of Central Institute of Post Harvest Engineering and Technologys a premier institute of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research initiative to provide training to prisoners so that they can earn their living after they are released from jail. Senior scientist Dr Dilip Jain,who has standardised the process of preparing green chilli powder and puree,dwelled upon how the technology could be used to establish a successful business.
Meeting of autorickshaw dealers to be held today
LUDHIANA: A meeting of the autorickshaw dealers association will be held on Thursday to discuss the plan of action regarding diesel autos. Omparkash Jodhan,the association president,said: The state government has directed that running of diesel autos be stopped in Ludhiana. More than 30,000 such autos ply on city roads. A hearing in this connection was held at the high court today. It will again hear the case on April 20. Till then,we can run these autos.
Anna Hazare gets support from transport associations
LUDHIANA: Alpl India Motor Transport Corporation (AIMTC) on Wednesday announced its support to the campaign launched by social activist Anna Hazare against corruption. On April 8,the AIMTC will submit a memorandum to the DCs of all districts in Punjab after conducting district-level rallies,said corporation chairman Charan Singh Lohara. Jagdish Singh Jassowal,press secretary of Punjab Goods Transport Association,said: On April 9,transporters from Punjab and Haryana will join Anna Hazare in his hungerstrike. The fight against corruption is a genuine cause and the government needs to bring a law that will provide strict punishment to the guilty, said Lohara.
