‘Associating superbug with India a conspiracy’

The Indian Doctors for Peace and Development have strongly criticised associating the Metallo Beta Lactamase with India and naming it after Delhi.

The Indian Doctors for Peace and Development (IDPD) have strongly criticised associating the Metallo Beta Lactamase with India and naming it after Delhi.

Dr L S Chawla,President,Dr Arun Mtira,General Secretary,Dr Bharti Uppal,Finance Secretary of IDPD said this was a conspiracy by multinational corporations (MNC) to spread their business interests and damning India, which has emerged as a strong tertiary health care provider at much lesser cost than western countries.

They said,“Many patients from the West come to India for medical care. Any medical journal should not associate with such studies whose authenticity is not established as the sample of the study is too small and has not been supported by any study in India. It is well known that the MNCs operate clandestinely to sell their products. This is well proven in the case of swine flu. The WHO is now working under their guidance and diktats. That is why the WHO has shifted its stance of health being a social responsibility to individual responsibility and it has killed its Alma Ata declaration. Under the pressure of these MNCs,India was forced to accept the new patent regime, under which the patent rights have become applicable for 20 years.”

They said this was the reason of extremely high cost of the new drugs particularly the anti-cancer and HIV drugs. “We need no sermons from these MNCs regarding our health issues who treat the health as business and not as a right. No doubt, the health care system of our country needs to be revamped to meet the millennium development goal (MDG) by 2015. But this can be done by the sincere efforts by the state,” Dr Chawla said.

Noted Ayurveda scholar and physician at the Rashtriya Ayurveda Vidyapeeth Dr R. Vatsyayan said,” The recent upheaval created in the West over so-called “superbug” that is claimed to be sourced from India is a clear conspiracy hatched by the multibillion dollar medical industry as India is the “medical tourism destination”.
