Employees State Insurance Corporation Hospital here has become first among the ESI hospitals of state to have centrally air-conditioned pediatric ward for the children. The ward, which has started functioning,is the brain child of Dr Rajinder Gulati, head of the Pediatrics Department.

“The centrally air-conditioned ward will facilitate the children now,who earlier faced problems in adjusting to the ward temperature. We have seven rooms in this indoor ward. While three rooms with four beds each, four rooms have two beds each.”

Dr Gulati said,“To break the monotony, the ward also has a recreational wing,i.e. the “toy room” for the children. Here, children can play games of their choice on their way to recovery, which will help in improving their mental and physical health.”

“When we were planning to construct an AC ward, one of the nurses in-charge of this ward discussed with me about necessity to have a “toy room” and the idea appealed me. Despite the fund crunch,we purchased some toys from market while I also brought some of my daughter’s toys,” said Dr Ishita Arora, who designed the toy room.

The toy room has toys for the children of 3-9 year age group. These included blocks, colourful rattles,tri-cycle,baby walker,building-blocks etc. Dr Gulati said all the beneficiaries of ESI would be given free treatment here.
