The police on Wednesday rounded up around 50 people of suspicious nature during a drive targeted at miscreants.
Basically,our attempt is to check these unsocial elements that strike at odd hours like early in the morning or late in the evening the time when snatchings happen. We are covering areas within the municipal limits during the drive that will go on for some more time, said DCP Gurpreet Singh Toor. We plan to increase police presence all over the city during morning and evening hours. All the SHOs have been asked to be out on the roads along with their staff during this period. The nakas on the outskirts of the city have also been strengthened.
On Wednesday morning,around 800 policemen along with their SHOs fanned out in the areas frequented by morning walkers like the Punjab Agricultural University,Rakh Bagh and Rose Garden.
On day one,we rounded up some 40-50 people we found to be of suspicious nature. They were taken to police stations and questioned. During this process,we nabbed a proclaimed offender who had been avoiding arrest for long, said Toor.
Asserting that we have impounded some 14 vehicles parked wrongly,the DSP said,We are checking the crowd and are on the lookout for drug peddlers. We are also checking homes of people who could not explain their presence in the city.
