16 to be honoured at R-Day function

Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal will honour 14 employees of various departments tomorrow for their exemplary services towards society.

These heroes include excise inspector Navdeep Singh,who unearthed a major scam of bogus billing worth Rs 300 crore of one Dwarkadish company while in yet another case,he busted Rs 42 crore scam of an iron store.

Assistant excise and taxation commissioner Rishipal Singh,who had sent his case,said,“The inspector has helped the department earn revenue worth crores and also taught a good lesson to the tax evaders. He did not yield to the pressure. His contributions deserved to be honoured.”

44-year-old Amarjit Singh Tona was overwelhmed when he saw his name in the list of persons to be honoured. Tona is a clerk in MC,Zone D office and he had helped police nab two of the six dreaded undertrails who had tried to escape from police custody while they were being taken back in a bus after a court hearing on September 9,2009.

He had nabbed one Jasbir Singh and had helped police get hold of another undertrial,Gagan Sharma.

Tona had locked Jasbir Singh inside a room and remained along with this undertrial,till the time the police came. “No doubt MC authorities acknowledged my effort,but I am happy that I will be honoured by the CM for my efforts,” said Tona excitedly.

Bhushan Jain,senior assistant in the DC’s office,will be appreciated for his dedication towards work,while government employees are infamous for shirking work. Jain works overtime and can be seen in his seat before 9 a.m. His up-to-date work made DC to recommend a reward for this employee.

Bhim Singh is another clerk in the Revenue Department,who helped the department in earning revenue worth crores through his fast speed of work. He quickly disposed off the work and hence deposited huge revenue in treasury.

Five police officers,DSP Bhupinder Singh,Sandeep Kumar,Mandeep Singh,Ravinderjit Singh and Surinderjit Singh will be honoured for nabbing terrorist Balbir Singh Bhootna. While Pritpal Singh and Satwinder Singh will be honoured for foiling a robbery attempt on January 1 in Focal Point area. The SSP,Dr SS Gill said,“They did a great job and nabbed the criminals well in time.”

Sanjeev Kumara,a teacher in a school based in Thrike village and Anil Kumar,a vocational teacher in Jawahar Camp government school will also be honoured for their contribution in the field of education.

Ludhiana industrialist S.P Oswal,chairman of Vardhman group,will be conferred with Padam Bhushan award in New Delhi on R-Day. His family was overjoyed and even in his factory,celebratory mood was evident. Oswal had set up his unit in 1962 and now were the company with maximum yarn manufacturing capacity in India . They registered a Rs 3,200 crore turnover in 2008-09. In agriculture,they started first village cluster adoption programme in which now 95 villages have been added. The farmers growing cotton have got additional benefit of Rs 10,000 per acre through improved crop cultivation. This idea was even appreciated by the then President,Dr APJ Kalam,says VK Goyal,chief executive of Vardhman Spinning Mills,Ludhiana.
