Launching a veiled attack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and his party over the remarks he made during his London tour, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday said that some people with their habit to criticise India from foreign soil wanted to weaken the country’s democracy.

Addressing a seminar in Gorakhpur on the President’s address to joint sitting of Parliament, the CM said that while the world was appreciating India’s “growing power”, there were some people who did not want to give that respect to the country at the global level. “They always criticise India and curse the Indian democracy and constitutional practices from foreign soil,” Adityanath said.

The BJP has decided to hold such seminars across the state till March 20.

“The people cursing Indian democracy today are the same people who left no stone unturned to strangle the democracy when they got the chance… when they go abroad they criticize India. They criticise Uttar Pradesh when they go to Kerala. And when they come to Delhi, them criticise Kerala. This is their habit and hence there is the need to recognise them,” he remarked.

Rahul Gandhi is presently an MP from Kerala’s Wayanad and has represented UP’s Amethi constituency in the Lok Sabha in the past.

“By trying to weaken the country’s democracy, they want to carry forward the legacy they inherited as family heirloom — divide and rule. They have a mindset to divide the society in the name of caste, region, language and on the basis of different promises. These are dirty attempts to take the country towards division. Any such conspiracy by them must not be allowed to succeed,” the CM added.

Getting the G20 leadership shows India’s potential and pointed towards the country’s growing global dominance, he claimed. “Whether it is Afghanistan or the Russia-Ukraine war, the initiative of PM (Narendra) Modi is awaited everywhere,” the CM said.

The President’s address highlights achievements of the government and also gives a glimpse of its future plans, he said. “In the last nine years, India under the leadership of PM Modi has taken a giant leap in almost every sphere of life. There has been a massive positive change in every field from farming to innovation. Income of people has increased manifold and space travel is also being done through private satellites,” he further said.

In the times to come, India will show way to the world, asserted Adityanath who also urged the party workers to take the President’s message to the masses.
