Union Minister of State for Coal Sriprakash Jaiswal termed the installation of Instrument Landing System at Chakeri Airport as an important step towards improving the flight services from Kanpur.
Union Minister of State for Coal Sriprakash Jaiswal termed the installation of Instrument Landing System (ILS) at Chakeri Airport as an important step towards improving the flight services from Kanpur.
Jaiswal claimed that the installation process is expected to be completed within a month. Currently,Kanpur has only one 48-seater Air India flight to New Delhi. Owing to poor visibility conditions, the flight has often been delayed or cancelled in the past. Jaiswal said: Discussions through the civil aviation ministry are on with two private companies to start flight services from Kanpur.
Speaking to the media at Tilak Hall on Monday,Jaiswal said: ILS helps in landing flights in poor visibility conditions and after its installation the problem of flight delay or cancellation will end. The minister said that without the installation of ILS it was impossible to increase the number of flights from Kanpur.
Before beginning the ILS installation process,a Radio Construction Development Unit team of Airports Authority of India had come to inspect the Chakeri Airport in March 2010. Jaiswal said: The project worth Rs 2 crore is expected to be completed within a month.
Kanpur Ring Road
Jaiswal maintained that National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is conducting a feasibility study for the construction of a ring road in Kanpur. NHAI is expected to complete the study within a month. The construction of a ring road in the city will cost around Rs 200 crore, he added.
According to the minister,a huge amount has been approved under the Central Road Fund for the construction of better roads in Kanpur. Rs 19.38 crore has been approved for a four way lane on the old Allahabad route, whereas Rs 21.44 crore has been approved for the Grand Trunk Road between Afeem Kothi and Naubasta, he said.
