While Samajwadi Party national president Mulayam Singh Yadav has been promising that criminals and goondas will be behind the bars if his party was voted to power,on Sunday he promised to release historysheeter and sitting MLA Vijay Mishra his party formed the next government.
Mulayam made the announcement in his speech at an election meeting in Gyanpur in Sant Ravidas Nagar where the SP has fielded Mishra as its candidate.
Accusing the Mayawati government of lodging false cases against the son of Gyanpur,Mulayam appealed to the people to vote for Mishra. When he wins,said Mulayam,He will walk out of the jail like a lion.
He said the Mayawati government kept lodging false cases against Mishra even for incidents which took place when he was in jail.
Lodged in the Meerut jail,Mishra is the prime accused in the case of bomb blast outside the residence of BSP minister Nand Gopal Gupta Nandi in Allahabad on July 12,2010 in which The Indian Express Senior Reporter Vijay Pratap Singh was mortally wounded.
Mishra,who carried a reward of Rs 2.5 lakh on his head,was nabbed by the Delhi Police and UP Special Task Force in February last year in Delhi. A historysheeter,Mishra has more than 63 criminal cases against him.
On Saturday,while addressing a campaign meeting in Lucknow,Mulayam had promised that the SP government will show zero tolerance to goons and criminals. Goons and criminals will either leave criminal activities or leave the state or they will be put behind the bar, he said while addressing a gathering at Bakshi Ka Talab.
He reiterated the promises made in the SP manifesto,promising freebies to various sections,like loan waiver of up to Rs 50,000 to weavers and farmers and reservation for Muslims. Sant Ravidas Nagar has a significant population of weavers,contributing to the famous carpet industry of the region.
