According to police, they got information that Rana was present in the Budanpur area along with his gang members and was planning to shift his location. “When a police team reached the spot, the gangster and his associates opened fire on them. In the retaliatory firing, Rana received bullet injuries. He was rushed to a hospital where he died during treatment,” a police officer said.

In the cross-firing, five policemen also suffered minor injuries and their condition is stable, the officer added.

“Rana was a history-sheeter and wanted by the police in Shahjahanpur, Bijnor, Amroha, and Sambhal. There were 43 cases against him, including six cases of murders and 13 cases of robberies,” a police officer said.

He had escaped from police custody twice – in 2017 and 2022.
