Wanted gangster killed in encounter in Bijnor: Police

A wanted gangster was killed in an encounter in Bijnor’s Budanpur area on Wednesday morning, police said.
Police had announced a reward of Rs 2.5 lakh on Aditya Rana alias Ravi (42), who had escaped from police custody last August.
“We have arrested six of his gang members and raids are on to trace the others. Rana had escaped from police custody on August 23 last year while he was being brought to Lucknow jail from Bijnor court,” Superintendent of Police (Bijnor) Neeraj Kumar Jadaun.
According to police, they got information that Rana was present in the Budanpur area along with his gang members and was planning to shift his location. “When a police team reached the spot, the gangster and his associates opened fire on them. In the retaliatory firing, Rana received bullet injuries. He was rushed to a hospital where he died during treatment,” a police officer said.
In the cross-firing, five policemen also suffered minor injuries and their condition is stable, the officer added.
“Rana was a history-sheeter and wanted by the police in Shahjahanpur, Bijnor, Amroha, and Sambhal. There were 43 cases against him, including six cases of murders and 13 cases of robberies,” a police officer said.
He had escaped from police custody twice – in 2017 and 2022.
