Video of Umesh Pal murder led to only case against Asad
This was the first – and only – case against Asad for which he was wanted by the police, officers told The Indian Express, hours after the 19-year-old was shot dead in an encounter in Jhansi.

A DAY after the killing of Umesh Pal and his two police gunners in Prayagraj on February 24, video clips of the shooting emerged. In one such clip, a young man with a gun in hand is seen chasing Umesh Pal. Police later identified him as Asad Ahmed, son of former MP and gangster Atiq Ahmed.
This was the first – and only – case against Asad for which he was wanted by the police, officers told The Indian Express, hours after the 19-year-old was shot dead in an encounter in Jhansi.
Asad was not named in the FIR lodged immediately after the killing of Umesh Pal. His name surfaced during the investigation, the police said.
“This was the first case filed against Asad. We have so far not found any criminal record against Asad,” said a senior police officer.

Asad, who was pursuing law from an institute in Lucknow, was the third of Atiq’s five children. His two elder brothers — Ali Ahmed and Umar Ahmed — are lodged in Naini Central Jail in Prayagraj and Lucknow district jail, respectively.
While Ali was held in connection with a December 2021 case related to an assault on a property dealer, Umar was picked up in a 2019 abduction and assault case.
Asad’s two younger brothers, both minors, are currently in a Children Protection Home.
Ali has five cases against him, including two attempt to murder, lodged at different police stations of Prayagraj. The latest was lodged on April 9 this year in which he is accused of cheating and forgery.
Umar’s name figures in one case – related to the 2019 abduction and assault of a businessman from Lucknow – which was probed by the CBI.
Atiq’s wife Shaista Parveen, who is on the run, has four cases against her, including the Umesh Pal murder case. The other three cases were lodged in 2009 on charges of cheating and under Arms Act in Prayagraj’s Karnalganj police station. The police have announced a reward of Rs 50,000 for information leading to her arrest.
Atiq’s younger brother and former MLA Khalid Azim has 52 cases against him, including those related to murder and attempt to murder. He is lodged in a Bareilly jail.
