UPSRTC: Pee in open, watch yourself on YouTube

There are around 300 bus stations in the state and additional cameras have been installed at around 25 per cent of the bus stations so far.

“We have already collected some video footage and photographs of persons urinating at public places at bus stops. But we are yet to upload those on YouTube and other social media sites. Those who urinate in public do not have access to social media, but after watching these videos and photographs, others would definitely avoid urinating at public places,” said UP Transport Commissioner K Ravinder Naik. However, UPSRTC officials are in a dilemma on whether to show the face of the person urinating or blur it.

Naik said posters have already been put up at bus stations with warnings that people are under CCTV camera vigil and their videos would be uploaded on YouTube if they will urinate at public places. Signboards in this regard are also being installed.

“The objective is to make people feel ashamed while urinating in public and to make others avoid doing the same… The CCTVs will be monitored by the command centre set up at UPSRTC headquarters,” he added.

“Transport officials at bus stations charge a penalty of Rs 200 from those caught urinating in open. Despite the provision of a penalty, people have not stopped urinating in the open,” Naik said.
