THE STATE Assembly witnessed an uproar on Monday, when Samajwadi Party (SP) legislators entered the well of the House demanding resignation and apology from Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Medical and Health Brajesh Pathak over his remarks that the SP claimed were aimed at SP founder Mulayam Singh Yadav.

Even as Parliamentary Affairs Minister Suresh Khanna pointed out that Pathak did not take anyone’s name, SP MLAs alleged that the Deputy CM’s remarks were “disrespectful” and demanded that Pathak “quit”.

The house was adjourned for over an hour as the SP MLAs refused to go to their seats. Later, the issue was settled after Parliamentary Affairs Minister Suresh Khanna asserted that even the ruling party has “utmost respect for Mulayam Singh Yadav and would never disrespect him.”

During the Question Hour earlier, while replying to questions raised by the Opposition on health infrastructure , he asked if SP MLAs follow the words of “Neta Ji” [as Mulayam was known], and when he got an affirmative response, he went on to ask SP legislators if they would agree with the controversial “Boys make mistakes” remark [made by Mulayam in the past] as well.

To this, Leader of Opposition Mata Prasad Pandey raised an objection and said, “The Deputy Chief Minister speaks in such language that the proceedings are disrupted. Mulayam Singh was a respected person. Even your government gave him respect.”
