UP government announces 2% hike in DA for employees

The Uttar Pradesh government on Wednesday approved a 2 per cent hike in dearness allowance (DA) for state employees. In line with the central government’s decision, the state has increased the DA rate on the basic salary from 53% to 55%, effective January 1, 2025.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced the hike on X, stating that protecting the interests of state employees remains a top priority. The decision extends the DA increase to state employees, regular and full-time staff of aided educational and technical institutions, urban local bodies, ad hoc employees, and those receiving salaries under the UGC scale. Approximately 16 lakh employees will benefit from the hike.
The increased dearness allowance will be disbursed with the April 2025 salary, payable in May. As a result, the government will incur an additional financial burden of ?107 crore in May 2025 and ?193 crore for arrears payments.
Also, Rs 129 crore will be deposited into the General Provident Fund (GPF) for employees covered under the Old Pension Scheme (OPS). For the entire financial year, this expenditure will amount to Rs 107 crore per month.
According to the government, this initiative will not only provide financial relief but also enhance employee efficiency and job satisfaction. It underscores the government’s commitment to employee welfare while fostering a positive environment for the state’s development and prosperity, Tye government said.
In the post on X, the CM said, “Today, the Uttar Pradesh government has decided to raise the dearness allowance from 53% to 55%, effective from January 1, 2025. This decision will benefit approximately 16 lakh employees.”
