UK to help state set up community colleges

The state government would set up community colleges across the state with support from British High Commission of India.

The state government would set up community colleges across the state with support from British High Commission of India. These community colleges would aim at imparting skills in specific sectors and their curriculum will facilitate transition between vocational and general streams. Not only this,students would have the option to complete the courses at their own pace rather than following pre-defined examination schedules.

The decision was announced by Manjit Singh,Principal Secretary,Vocational and Technical Education Department of the state government in an official statement. The decision was taken in a meeting of senior officials of the government with British High Commission of India officials and representatives from industrial associations in Lucknow.

Andrew Jackson,Counselor,Knowledge Economy,British High Commission said in an official statement,“We look forward to diverse range of partnerships,including joint ventures to build new training institutions,business partnerships with employers and existing providers to development world-class training programmes in UP. The United Kingdom will support setting up of community colleges in UP.”

Senior IAS officer Rajeev Kapoor also informed that soon the state government would also launch a skill development mission to ensure comprehensive efforts for mobilising,counseling,training and then final placement for youths in the state between the age group of 15-35 years.
