Two booked for beating up Dalit woman for taking water from tubewell: Police

A FARMER and his son were booked for allegedly beating up a Dalit woman and hurling casteist abuse for collecting water from their tubewell in Banda, police said. The woman, 36, works as an agricultural labourer, officers said.

An FIR was registered under Sections 115 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) of the Indian Penal Code. The police have also invoked the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act against the accused.
