Three of a family commit ‘suicide’

Three members of a family reportedly committed suicide by consuming sulphas tablets in Haldharpur area of Mau district on Monday. The deceased are Subhash Sharma (55),his mother Jyoti Devi (75) and sister Malti (37).

Malti’s seven-year-old boy who also consumed sulphas is battling for life at a Varanasi hospital. Malti and Subhash had forced their father Ram Naresh to sell a plot of land for Rs 3 lakh,of which Malti gave Rs 2 lakh to someone in Ballia who promised a government job in return,said Malti’s brother Ashok.

“When Malti realised that she had been duped,she along with Subhash and their mother committed suicide as they had forced Ram Naresh to sell the land,” Mau ASP Diwakar Kumar said. Ashok and his father found the three dead when they returned home in the morning,added the ASP.
