Drums,trumpets,and showers of marigold and rose petals it was a grand show as BJP candidate for Lucknow Lalji Tandon filed his nomination papers on Monday.
An MLA from the Lucknow West constituency,Tandon succeeds former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee as the BJP candidate.
In view of the Election Commission guidelines,his cavalcade did not have too many vehicles. With just four SUVs and an open DCM carrier,most of his supporters walked or used two wheelers to reach the Collectorate in Kaiserbagh. Tandon was accompanied by former Speaker Keshari Nath Tripathi,Mayor Dr Dinesh Sharma,president of BJP Lucknow Mahanagar,Jaipal Singh and the state president of BJYM,Dayashankar Singh.
Starting an hour ahead of time,the cavalcade passed through Hazratganj from the Allahabad Bank crossing to the Parivartan Chowk,from where it moved towards the High Court Crossing.
For the supporters,all carrying BJP flags,the rallying cry was “Atal Tandon zindabad”. The cavalcade was stopped near the Collectorate Crossing,from where Tandon,with his four proposers,moved to the collectorate campus in a white ambassador.
He reached the District Magistrate’s court at 1.30 pm, alongwith proposers Shiv Kumar (Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s secretary),former mayor SC Rai,Dr Siyaram and Badri Prasad Awasthi and filed the papers.
