Taj Corridor case litigant loses her job

Anupama Singh, whose PIL seeking resumption of proceedings against Chief Minister Mayawati in the Taj Heritage Corridor case is pending in Allahabad High Court, has been sacked by the private school where she worked as librarian.

Anupama Singh, whose PIL seeking resumption of proceedings against Chief Minister Mayawati in the Taj Heritage Corridor case is pending in Allahabad High Court, has been sacked by the private school where she worked as librarian.

“The termination letter gives no reason for the action taken against me and was handed over to me at the school’s gate today,” said Singh.

Singh had been working at Springdale College in Indira Nagar for the past six years.

“There was no record of misconduct against me,” she said, adding that for the last two months, the school authorities were harassing her.

“The director of the school,Krishna Sood, had been giving me warnings to take back the PIL or leave the school as school was a part of the system and it can’t afford to go against it,” she said.

“Similar was the response of the principal Rita Khanna who says teachers are for teaching and not reforming the system,” Singh added.

Singh, who had earlier moved an affidavit in the High Court saying that the school had issued her a notice of “mending ways”,will move another plea on Thursday.

“We would appeal to court to initiate a contempt proceeding against the school management as the move is part of curtailing the process of law,” said Rohit Tripathi,Singh’s lawyer.

“It is being done on the behest of the chief minister and we have already informed the court that a government representative is a part of school management body and has a direct role in harassing the litigant,” said Tripathi.

The principal of the school said Singh was on a contract and as per the law she has been paid three-month’s salary before the termination.

Giving no specific reasons behind the school’s decision,Khanna said the school reserves the right to continue or end the services of contractual employees.

“We are acting as per law and are not aware of the allegations leveled against the school by her,” Khanna said.

Earlier too,Anupma,a resident of Vishwas Khand in Gomti Nagar, had accused the chief minister of attempting to influence her in dropping the petition against her and her minister Naseemuddin Siddiqui.

Claiming that her movements were being monitored by unknown persons,Singh said the Drug Department harasses her husband who runs a medical shop in Aminabad area.
