A resident of Barabanki,Jyoti Singh (25),admitted to CSMMU,tested positive for the disease on Sunday.

Singh was admitted to ICU on July 15 as a patient of bilateral pneumonia. In the evening,with her condition deteriorating,she had to be given ventilator support. Later,reports from SGPGI confirmed that she had swine flu.

“She was moved to the Swine Flu Ward in the Emergency ward of CSMMU. She is still on ventilator,” said Dr Narsingh Verma,Medical Superintendent of CSMMU. “She has been given Tamiflu as we had the medicine available. Her condition,however,is critical.”

The Chief Medical Officer,who has been informed about the situation,will visit the patient tomorrow,he said.

This year,the state saw 90 cases of swine flu. Four deaths have occurred so far. Most cases surfaced in January and February. A 7-year-old boy from Ghaziabad died of the H1N1 virus in the first week of July.
