Stop criminals operating from jail: Maya

Chief Minister Mayawati has expressed her dissatisfaction over the functioning of the Jail department and directed officials to keep a check on criminals operating from inside jails.

Chief Minister Mayawati has expressed her dissatisfaction over the functioning of the Jail department and directed officials to keep a check on criminals operating from inside jails. She directed the authorities to make surprise inspections of jails and ensure that action is taken against erring employees.

The chief minister’s directives were communicated to the officers at a meeting held by Chief Secretary Atul Gupta and Cabinet Secretary Shashank Shekhar Singh to review the law and order situation in the state. In addition to top officers of the police and jail departments,Additional Cabinet Secretary Netram,Principal Secretary (Information) V S Pandey,Principal Secretary (Home) Kunwar Fateh Bahadur and DGP Karamvir Singh attended the meeting.

According to a government release,the chief minister expressed concern over the frequent recovery of objectionable articles from inside jails. She stated that such articles could not have been taken inside jails without the involvement of jail employees. Directing the police to ensure justice for the poor,Mayawati also laid emphasis on making “thana diwas” effective in addressing the problems of the common man.

Expressing unhappiness over the slow pace in the distribution of patta (land rights) among tribals of Naxal-affected areas,Mayawati directed the police to apprise the government on the development work taking place in such areas of the state.
