The Allahabad High Court lawyers strike against the demand for setting up of a new HC bench in western Uttar Pradesh will continue Monday.
Meanwhile,a delegation of Allahabad High Court Bar Association (AHCBA) will meet the Chief Justice of India and the Union Law Minister on Sunday.
AHCBA president K N Mishra said,We have decided to continue with our strike. We have got appointments with the CJI and the Law Minister Sunday. After meeting them we will decide the future course of action.
On Friday, the lawyers were joined by local representatives, including MPs and MLAs,of all four major political parties to support the cause. Lawyers from the Central Administrative Tribunal and the Debt Recovery Tribunal, besides the Board of Revenue, also joined the strike,Mishra said.
Political representatives present at the lawyers meeting were Congress MLA from City (North) Anugraha Narayan Singh,City Congress chief Abhay Awasthi,Mayor Abhilasha Gupta of BSP,former MP from Phulpur Dharmraj Patel, currently with the Samajwadi Party, and former BJP MLA Narendra Kumar Singh Gaur.
A few MPs had sent their support letters.
The argument in favour of setting up a western UP bench is distance. By that logic, there should be a Supreme Court bench in every state. Making courts smaller would only hamper its administration and quality, said Abhay Awasthi.
BJPs Narendra Kumar Singh Gaur said apart from constitutional provisions, the Allahabad High Court has its own glory and there is lot of history attached to it. Things like the Allahabad High Court and the Sangam are part of Allahabad heritage. They should not be tinkered with, he said.
