Following the arrest of UPCC president Rita Bahuguna Joshi, the Samajwadi Party is in a dilemma over its relationship with the Congress and its position towards the BSP.

State SP president Akhilesh Yadav said on Friday: “Party workers are asking us to explain our relationship with the Congress, which is taking support not only from us but also from the BSP. We want to ask the Congress whether it is with us or with the BSP.”

He added that it is only in Uttar Pradesh, where two parties that are diametrically opposed to each other in the state, are standing together on one platform at the national level.

“It is intriguing to see that the Congress has not initiated any action against the BSP government despite the UPCC president’s residence being torched in the presence of senior police officers like IG Lucknow Range,” said Yadav.

The situation in UP was so grim that anyone who expressed his thoughts was being targetted by the state government, the SP state president said. “The police are now taking orders from BSP workers. Even after the state Congress president’s house had been set on fire,a senior police officer kept denying that the house had been burnt. We have information that the police knew beforehand about the attacked,” added Yadav.

He claimed that the Mayawati government was busy framing its political opponents in false cases and was heaping atrocities on all sections of the society.
