The adage there are no permanent friends or foes in politics is most evident in Karnataka, where CP Yogeshwar,Samajwadi Partys lone MLA from the southern state, has announced his support for D K Suresh, the Congress candidate for the Lok Sabha by-polls from Bangalore Rural. The by-polls are scheduled to take place on August 21. Bangalore Rural was previously held by H D Kumaraswamy of Janata Dal (Secular),who vacated it after being elected to the State Assembly from the Ramanagaram seat. Kumaraswamy is the former CM of Karnataka and son of H D Deve Gowda. His wife Anita Kumaraswamy is contesting the Lok Sabha bypolls from Bangalore Rural. We are supporting Congress candidate D K Suresh and it was done after getting permission from Mulayam Singh Yadav and Akhilesh Yadav. There is no issue as the SP is even extending outside support to the Congress-led UPA government at the Centre, C P Yogeshwar said. Interestingly, the SP had entered into a pre-poll alliance with JD (S) and two Communist parties CPI and CPM for the assembly elections in Rajasthan. Yogeshwar said that former minister D K Shivakumar, who is the brother of Congress candidate D K Suresh, visited them during a SP workers meet. He requested us to support them. After getting the nod,we assured him of our support. Even Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah requested us for support, he said. We are against Gowda family and JD (S) and we will do anything to defeat them. In Karnataka, however, the political situation is different. I have explained this to the SP leadership.
