A local court in Jalaun Saturday held Samajwadi Party MLA Kaptan Singh Rajput and his elder brother Laxman Singh guilty in a murder case in which an undertrial was shot dead in police custody in 2002.
The court acquitted six other accused in case.
District Government Counsel, Pramod Verma said the MLA and his brother have been taken into custody.
Both were out on bail in the case, Verma said, adding judgment is likely to be pronounced on January 5.
The court has separated the file of one of the accused who is absconding for long time and issued an arrest warrant against him, Verma said.
Kaptan Singh was elected to UP Assembly after he won the bypolls to Charkhari constituency in Mahoba in September.
According to prosecution, Kishunji, who was lodged at Kanpur district jail and being brought to Orai for his appearance in a court trial in October 2002, was shot dead by assailants near Town hall under Orai police station area.
In retaliatory firing by police constables escorting Kishunji one of the assailants was killed.
An FIR was then lodged by a police constable against two persons including Kaptan Singh and three unidentified persons.
