Samajwadi Party MLA Sachin Yadav on Thursday claimed that one-fourths of the projects committed during the Uttar Pradesh Global Investors Summit have been dropped.

During the question hour on the seventh day of the Assembly’s budget session, Yadav, referring to a 600-page reply he claimed to have received from the state government on his question related to investment proposals received during the summit, said, “Many of those who wanted to put up projects are unable to find suitable land and those being given land in a suitable area are finding it very expensive. The purpose of the summit was that industries would come, tax collection would increase and more employment would be generated. But the reply shows that 25 per cent of the projects have been dropped.”

Yadav and his party colleague Ragini had asked the government about the details of investment proposals from last year and how many of the proposals received during the 2022 summit have actually started on the ground.

On Wednesday, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced in the Assembly that projects worth Rs 10 lakh crore are ready for a groundbreaking ceremony that will be done by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 19. The MOUs for a section of these projects were signed during the 2023 Investors Summit, he claimed.

While the government in its reply informed that 19,058 memorandums of understanding (MOUs) worth Rs 33.5 lakh crore were signed during the Investors Summit 2023, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Suresh Khanna clarified that the summit was not held in 2022 when the third groundbreaking ceremony of the projects signed during the 2018 summit took place.

Later, speaking to The Indian Express, MLA Yadav said, “For all these years the government took credit for the total number of MOUs signed. We came to know that many of these companies already have businesses in the state and MOUs were signed even for expansion. We also wanted to know how many of these were companies coming to the state for the first time.”

You’ll be finished: BJP MLA to Opposition

BJP MLA Pankaj Singh on Thursday warned the Opposition that they should not question “religion” or “good acts” or they would be finished. Speaking on the Governor’s address, Singh said the Opposition raised questions on the very existence of “Bhagwan Shri Ram Chandra” and that when a resolution was placed in the Assembly some members raised their hands expressing their resentment. “Don’t raise a question on religion or good deeds. Otherwise, the Opposition would be finished,” the BJP MLA said.
