SP men beat up power officials at police post

Power department employees were beaten up at Narauli police outpost allegedly by Samajwadi Party workers after they caught two men pilfering power at Jansoa village in Bhimnagar district and seized their pumpsets Thursday.

Soon after the employees went to the police post,along with the seized pumpsets,to lodge a complaint,around 20 men arrived and started beating them. With policemen remaining mere spectators,the Power department employees escaped in their jeep. The assailants took away the seized pumpsets.

Later,on a complaint from executive engineer Neeraj Kumar,the police lodged an FIR against four named and about 10 unidentified men at Baniather police station. Kumar,who also got injured in the incident,said the assailants also took away his official cellphone,a gold chain and Rs 15,000.

Sub-inspector Sohan Lal,who is investigating the case,said the assailants were supporters of the Samajwadi Party. Jansoa village falls in Chandausi assembly constituency and Laxmi Gautam of the ruling Samajwadi Party is the local MLA.

Executive Engineer Pankaj Kumar,who was part of the team,said that after the department’s team reached the police outpost,Laxmi Gautam’s husband Dileep called him and asked not to take action against Shamshad and Jaleef,the men who were caught drawing power illegally.

“I turned down his request and asked him to tell both men to deposit the fine’’,said Pankaj Kumar.

Feroz Khan,district president of the Samajwadi Party,denied that the assailants belonged to his party.
