Demanding that the state government provide them compensation equal to that given in other such cases, the family members of a slain BSF jawan are holding a sit-in since a week near Prithvipur village in Mainpuri disrict.
BSF jawan Surendra Singh was killed in an encounter with smugglers on July 6 during his posting in West Bengal. His father Dafedar Singh said his sons body was brought to Mainpuri on July 9 without any public representative coming to visit the family.
Singh is on a sit-in with his wife and daughter from August 12,said Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav had given Rs 20 lakh to a CRPF jawan from Mainpuri, who had committed suicide, and also promised government job to a family member because the deceased belonged to a particular caste.
In my sons case,no one has come to visit us, he said.
Singh said he has started his fast-unto-death and will continue with it until the government accepts his demand of providing financial assistance to the family, offering a job to one of his sons, naming a road after his deceased son,and installing a statue of him in Mainpuri.
Mainpuri District Magistrate Vijay Kiran Anand said the BSF has provided Rs 15 lakh as assistance and promised a job to a family member. Anand said he has written to the state government for the demand of installing a statue of the jawan and naming a road after him. He said he has also given instructions to investigating officers about the investigation of the case lodged against the locals.
