The Uttar Pradesh government has decided to start an emergency ambulance service on highways to minimise road accident-related deaths.
The health department has been made the nodal department for arrangement of ambulances and their maintenance. Instructions were issued by state chief secretary Jawed Usmani in this regard on Thursday.
These ambulances will be connected through a toll-free and a control-room. Equipped with paramedical staff, the service will be available round-the-clock,with staff members working in three shifts.
For better operation of the service,a committee will be formed in every district under the district magistrate, with senior officials of police, health, transport and public works departments. Apart from ambulances, cranes will also be arranged at selected spots along the highways for rescue operations.
