Raja Bhaiyya agrees to take lie-detector test

Former minister in the SP government and Kunda MLA,Raghuraj Pratap Singh alias Raja Bhaiyya, has agreed to undergo a polygraph test

Former minister in the SP government and Kunda MLA,Raghuraj Pratap Singh alias Raja Bhaiyya, has agreed to undergo a polygraph test, popularly called as lie-detector test,in connection with the murder of Kunda circle officer Ziaul Haque.

Appearing before a CBI court in Lucknow on Tuesday,Raja Bhaiyya gave his consent to undergo a polygraph test. The court, however, reserved the order in the matter.

Earlier, the CBI had filed an application in the court of Special Judicial Magistrate Mirza Zeenat seeking permission to conduct the test on Raja Bhaiyya, who has been named as a conspirator in the murder of the police officer.

Raja Bhaiyya’s counsel Satyendra Singh said that while giving his consent,Raja Bhaiyya told the court that he had cooperated with the investigation agency during his interrogation. He also told the court that a chargesheet in the murder case has already been filed in the court against others. But if the polygraph test can help extract the truth,he was ready to undergo the same,Raja Bhaiyya told the Special Judicial Magistrate.

However,Singh added, the court reserved the order regarding the decision over giving permission to CBI for the lie-detector test.

Haque was shot dead when he had visited Balipur village in Hathigawan area on the night of March 2 after the murder of local pradhan Nanhey Yadav. Angry over the murder, pradhan’s family and his supporters allegedly attacked the Haque and killed him. The pradhan’s brother too had died of gunshot injury during the attack on Haque.

The CBI had registered two separate cases into the murder. A case was lodged on the complaint of Haque’s wife Parveen Azad, who named Raja Bhaiyya as conspirator and four of his associates for the murder of her husband.

Another case was registered on the complaint of then station officer of Hathgawan police station,Manoj Kumar Shukla, who had named slain pradhan’s son,his brothers and the supporters for Haque’s murder.

During the investigation, the CBI found Shukla’s allegations true and filed the chargesheet against 14 people on June 7. Those named in the CBI chargesheet included slain pradhan’s son, four of his brothers, including Suresh who died after his gun went off accidentally during the attack on Haque.

Raja Bhaiyya’s name did not figure in the chargesheet.

The agency also had mentioned in the chargesheet that the allegations of Haque’s wife in her complaint were in variance of the findings during the investigation. However, the investigating officer had mentioned that the investigation in the case was still going on.
