Rahul meets stampede victims’ kin,promises help

Keeping to his style,AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi today took a whirlwind tour of villages around Mangarh at Kunda to meet the families who lost their dear ones in the stampede at Bhakti Dham Ashram yesterday but remained off-limits to the media and the partymen in general.

“I don’t want to say anything but I am thankful to Rahulji who has come to console me and my family,” said Sura Bali Patel of Bidasi village,who lost his wife Arti Devi in the Thursday stampede.

While Bali blamed himself for the tragedy saying he had sent his wife to the place for freebies. Rahul hugged him at his hutment and assured him of all help.

Giving a complete miss to media,policemen,his own partymen and the Pratapgarh administration,the Amethi MP also took part in the last rites for 22 of the victims. The Gandhi scion secretly reached the Manikpur Raj Ghat and met the relatives of the victims. On his order,the party flags on the vehicles were taken off.

After visiting the ghat,Rahul toured 10 villages including Itwara,Mawai Kala,Peer Nagar,Matpur,Bidasi,Vijai Pur,Tiwari Pur,Dhobiayan,Kusemal,Khemaipur and Mangal Kache and met the family members of the deceased while a media contingent and party workers waited for him at the ashram.

While going to Allahabad,the Congress MP stopped at Bidasi to meet Bali.

He also met Ram Kumar Milan of Bhetua village who lost his three sons in the stampede. Consoling Maiku Maurya of Matpur village,Rahul asked his men to note down the name and addresses of the victims and their relatives and ensure the compensation of Rs 2 lakh announced by the central government reached them without delay. Maiku had lost his 12-year-old daughter in the incident,said Congress MLA from Allahabad Anugrah Naraya Singh.Youth Congress leader Sanjay Tiwari was accompanying Rahul during the tour.
