It seems that securing the head regulator of the Upper Ganga Canal in Muradnagar, which supplies water to the Capital’s Sonia Vihar and Bhagirathi water plant, has finally become a priority for the district administration. Two battalions of the Rapid Action Force (RAF) have now been deployed to secure the regulator.

The RAF personnel also took out a flag march in the villages dominated by the Jat community in the area. RAF Assistant Commander Dharamveer said B/103 battalion of the force has been deployed in villages near the regulator to ensure that no one would tried to cut off water supply to the Capital. The RAF battalions have 25 women personnel too. Ghaziabad SP (Rural) Captain M M Baig said the RAF has been deployed in co-ordination with the local police as there is a possibility of Jats blocking the water supply again.

Meanwhile, the politics over the reservation seems to have divided the Jats into two groups. A group backing Rashtriya Lok Dal leader Ajit Singh is now holding meetings to oppose the All India Jat Sangarsh Samiti, which cut off the water supply on Sunday. “The RLD chief promised to raise the issue in the Vidhan Sabha, but has not done it. We did not oppose him even then as we are not affiliated to any political party. But now we have come to know that he has held meetings to dissuade Jats from joining us. We will still welcome him if he joins our cause,” said a member.
