Put name of 1965 war hero Abdul Hamid in govt records: Admin to Education Dept

DAYS AFTER a controversy over the removal of 1965 India-Pakistan war hero Abdul Hamid’s name from the wall of a primary school in Ghazipur during painting work— an issue later resolved by restoring his name — the administration has urged the education department to officially record the Param Vir Chakra awardee’s name in government records.
The primary school is in Dhamupur village, where Abdul Hamid’s ancestral house stands. During painting work, his name was reportedly erased, leaving only “PM Shri Composite Vidhyalay” on the main gate, leading to objections from his family and opposition political parties.
“We have written to the education department in Lucknow, requesting that Shaheed Abdul Hamid’s name be officially included in the government records,” said Ghazipur Basic Shiksha Adhikari Hemant Rao.
The school is part of the PM Schools for Rising India (PM SHRI) scheme. Jamil Alam (38), Abdul Hamid’s grandson, said he learned about the issue recently. “I raised the matter with the district administration, including the BSA, after making enquiries with the school principal about my grandfather’s missing name. The principal said Abdul Hamid’s name was not in the records, so I informed the BSA,” said Jamil, who works for Indian Railways and lives in Varanasi.
