According to the police, in the first case, the woman BJP leader has lodged a First Information Report (FIR) against a party councillor and a junior worker. Officers said the junior BJP member allegedly created an obscene video of the woman and handed it over to the councillor who, in turn, is said to have created a fake ID on Facebook and posted the clip.
Keshav Bahadur, SP, Meerut (Rural), said, “We have lodged the FIR under relevant sections of the IT Act and are conducting raids to nab them. The BJP councillor named in the FIR has raked up controversies on various issues earlier. This is a serious issue and we hope to arrest them soon.”
Mukesh Singhal, BJP’s Meerut unit chief, said, “This is a very shameful act and has led to a bad name for the party in western UP. I hope the police will take strict action so that others may not dare to spoil the party’s image with such condemnable acts.”
In the second case, a senior lawyer in Meerut is purportedly seen in a compromising situation with a minor girl who works in his office. Her father has submitted a complaint to the Bar Association alleging that the lawyer made the video viral after his daughter “refused to be physically exploited by him further”.
The association subsequently called an emergency meeting on Monday and unanimously decided to cancel the lawyer’s Bar membership following which he was removed from his high post in the association. The Bar Association is also trying to ensure that the lawyer’s licence to practice law is cancelled, sources said. No FIR has been registered in this connection so far.
Kunwar Pal Sharma, president of the Meerut Bar Association, said, “We are aghast to know that such a senior lawyer has been found involved in shameful activities, that too with a minor who works in his office. His act has put the community of lawyers in Meerut to shame. We hope the police will take strict action.”
