Polls: Cong to release first list by August-end

The Congress on Saturday said it would release the first list of candidates for UP Assembly elections,due early next year,by this month-end.

The Congress on Saturday said it would release the first list of candidates for UP Assembly elections,due early next year,by this month-end.

A meeting of the election committee would be held in New Delhi in this regard on August 16 and effort would be made that declared candidates get five to six months for campaigning, Leader of Congress Legislative Party Pramod Tiwari said in a statement here.

There was a bit delay in declaring the candidates names due to health problem of Congress president Sonia Gandhi but the list will be issued by this month in the presence of AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi, he said.

Congress is also holding talks with smaller parties on the issue of alliance.
