Rs 25,000 crore misused for ‘terrorism, love-jihad’: UP CM Yogi Adityanath defends ban on Halal products

Speaking at an RSS event, the Chief Minister also said ‘political Islam’ is largely overlooked in history even as it has inflicted a big blow on the faith.

Taking on the Akhilesh Yadav-led SP, Adityanath said that before 2017, the government could not think beyond the matters of “Saifai family”.Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath (Special Arrangement)

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath Tuesday said ‘Political Islam’ is largely overlooked in history even as it has inflicted a big blow on the faith.

The CM made the remarks while addressing the Vichar-Parivar Kutumb Sneh Milan and Deepotsav Se Rashtrotsav programmes, organised by Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh’s Gorakhpur division to mark the centenary year of the Sangh, on Tuesday evening.

He said, “Our ancestors fought against British and French colonialism, but they waged a battle against ‘Political Islam’ as well. We still remember great warriors like Maharana Sanga, Maharana Pratap, Guru Gobind Singh and Shivaji Maharaj for [this]. We gave them the honour of the nation’s heroes for the battle they fought.”

“Our ancestors fought major struggles against political Islam [as well], yet this aspect of history remains largely overlooked. This ‘Political Islam’ is the same thing which aims to change the demography by dividing the nation.” he claimed.

“To make people stay alert about this, the RSS is spearheading a campaign to bring society together, which is praiseworthy,” he further said.

The Chief Minister also cautioned people to stay away from buying any commodity that has a Halal certification label since, he alleged, the profits were misused for “terrorism, love-jihad and conversion”. He claimed that Rs 25,000 crore is earned through ‘Halal’ certification.

Recalling a recent police operation that unearthed a “religious conversion” racket run by one Chhangur Baba alias Jalaluddin in Balrampur district, he said, “Our team was keeping a watch on his activities for the last three years and I used to get an update on the intelligence collection every month… I had alerted the team to lay [their] hands [on him] when strong evidence is collected so that effective action is taken.”

However, the CM added, he escaped six months ago. He said he shouted at the team that the mission was failing. “Jalaluddin was finally arrested. He was involved in anti-social activities…,” Adityanath said.

The CM also claimed Jalaluddin had been getting funds from money collected through Halal certification. “I have banned the sale and purchase of items with such certification. Whenever you go purchasing, watch carefully that you are not buying any such item with this certification. All the money collected through this would go into such conspiracies. Many such ‘Chhangur Babas’ are still active in areas around us,” he alleged.

The CM also took a swipe at the Samajwadi Party (SP) and Congress at the event.

Launching a sharp attack on SP President Akhilesh Yadav over his remarks about Ayodhya’s Deepotsav, Adityanath said that opposing the lighting of diyas on Diwali reflects contempt for the Ram Temple, Sanatan Dharma, and its traditions. He added that such statements also insult the Prajapati (potter) community, which plays a vital role in crafting diyas.

Branding the SP as “traitors to Ram, Krishna, and Sanatan festivals,” the Chief Minister reaffirmed that his government will continue to enhance the glory of Ayodhya, Mathura, and Vrindavan, the sacred centres of India’s cultural and spiritual heritage.

Taking on the Congress, CM Adityanath claimed that the party once denied the very existence of Lord Ram and Lord Krishna, even filing an affidavit in court claiming they were myths.
