On their way to pilgrimage to the four dhams —Badrinath,Kedarnath,Gangotri and Jamnotri—the crew of the Star Plus reality show Mahayatra stopped over at Lucknow to felicitate a real-life Shravan Kumar from Lucknow.

Arun Sharma,a Lucknow lad,who lost his father when he was in class VII,was chosen ‘Shravan’ because of the grit and determination with which he passed the hurdles of life only to realise his mother’s dream of completing MBA.

“You rarely find such heroes,” says Manish Goel, host of the show, which he insists is all about loving your parents. It is based on a unique concept which attempts to bring out the Indian values such as respecting your parents and fulfilling their wishes,” says Manish who was offered to anchor the show as he is “very religious and a family man”.

“At times,I am so religious that my wife has to warn me,” says the television star, who shot to fame with reality shows like Nach Baliye and Zara Nach Ke Dikha. “Mahayatra is also a reality show but with a difference,” he says adding “one which made my acting yatra fulfilling. After learning to act and dance,I had this opportunity to visit these religious places. What more you can ask for?”

Accompanied by Astha Dixit,a contestant from Lucknow and Shweta Lalwani from Delhi,Manish says the USP of the show is its emotional connect with the audience. Astha says she was here for her devotion to God,but would accept acting offers if any came her way. Ditto, said Shweta.

“Who would not love to see doting sons and daughters taking their parents to visit the chaardham (four pilgrim centres),” he argues, adding the show may be far away from glamour but has lots of scenic beauty.
